Perfect eyebrows in 3 steps

Eyebrows give our face a frame, but you can do a lot wrong with this framework. Since Cara Delevingne at the latest, the eyebrow trend has been back towards full, natural-looking eyebrows. But what to do if your brows are over-plucked or just don't want to grow naturally? Here are the step-by-step instructions for perfect eyebrows.

What you need for eyebrow styling

Serum

Tweezer

Pencil

Powder

Styling gel

Step 1: See what nature has to offer

Well, you don't have to leave it entirely to nature, especially if you've plucked your eyebrows. Give your own eyebrows the chance to show what they're made of: eyebrow growth serums lengthen the hairs and provide more fullness.

Step 2: Pluck eyebrows like a pro

When the hairs sprout again, you can shape your eyebrows by plucking. Before plucking, you should find the right eyebrow shape. The easiest way is to have your eyebrows plucked by a professional and then only pluck them again. If you prefer to do the eyebrow shaping yourself, you should first determine the shape of your face:

The right eyebrow shape for your face

Eyebrows for a diamond-shaped face

Brows with a soft, natural, rounded arch suit a heart-shaped face best. This makes the facial features look more harmonious and less harsh.

Eyebrows for an oval face

Thick, clearly defined eyebrows flatter the face of an oval face. For an intense look, they can also be a little fuller. The eyebrow arch should be slightly curved.

Eyebrows for a round face

If you have a round face, eyebrows with a high arch and rather vertical lines are well suited. This makes the face look more elongated and well-proportioned.

Eyebrows for an angular face

A flat, round arch is best for an angular face shape, making the face look softer and gentler.

Eyebrows for long faces

For rather long faces you should pluck your eyebrows rather flat and as straight as possible, without a bow.

The most important basic rules for plucking eyebrows

  • The eyebrow should be slightly thicker on the inside and thin on the outside.
  • In the middle, the eyebrow should not exceed the wing of the nose.
  • The highest point of the eyebrow should be at about 2/3, in the last third the brow lowers.
  • The brow ends on the outside where the nostril and the outermost point of the eye meet on a line.

Which tweezers should I use to pluck my eyebrows?

The wide, slightly bevelled tweezers are best for plucking the shape. Grasp each hair individually and always pluck in the direction of growth so that the hair does not break off. With a pair of pointed tweezers you can easily get the fine hairs between the brows.

Tip: If you take a facial steam bath before plucking, you will open up the pores and can relieve the pain of plucking.

Step 3: Shape eyebrows - but do it right

Mistakes when making up eyebrows

What you've always done wrong up to now: You should use brow gel before applying powder or pencil. If you trace the brow before shaping it, the colour will end up in the wrong place. Also, applying gel can cause holes in the brow.

Choose the right eyebrow colour

For blondes, brown tones can quickly look unnatural, so use a pale, slightly greyish tone. For a natural look, the shade should not be darker than your hair colour. If you want to make a statement with your brows, go one or two shades darker. Keep the rest of your make-up simple.

Which products are best suited?

The possibilities are almost endless. They range from powder to pencil to gel:

  • Colouring eyebrows with the pencil

Eyebrows are not painted, they are finely stroked. Start tracing on the outside and get lighter towards the centre.

  • Eyebrows with powder

The same rules apply here as for the pencil. You can even use a slightly lighter shade for the inner part of the eyebrow for a natural look.

  • Eyebrow tinting

The braver ones can also try dyeing. Don't use regular hair colour, but special eyebrow colours. These are gentler and usually come with a matching dye pack. When colouring eyebrows, the rule is: first colour, then pluck, otherwise the colour will get stuck in the pores.
