Short hairstyles

Short hairstyles are practical and look terrific.

Short hairstyles are practical and look great. They look fresh and give wearers an individual touch. They are not only practical, but also give you a confident and stylish look.

A short hairstyle gives you a bold and youthful charm. You can experiment with different haircuts, from an asymmetrical pixie cut to a sleek bob. Short hair makes your face shine and accentuates your natural features.

We'll show you the different cuts and the hair products you can use to style them.

What types of short hairstyles are there?

The possibilities with short haircuts are endless. However, by making small changes in the haircut, every short hairstyle can look different again. Short hair really is a quick-change artist. We explain the difference between the trendy short hairstyles.

Undercut

With an undercut, the lower half or side of the head is shaved. The top hair remains. The undercut can be cut on one side or all around the head. In addition, trendy patterns can make the undercut look even more unique. The remaining hair can also be cut very short or worn slightly over the undercut.

Pageboy cut

The pageboy cut is a haircut cut to one length, which in the classic version is worn slightly over the ears. In the 50s and 60s, the pageboy cut was the most popular haircut of famous actresses. The cut also looks very beautiful in combination with fringes. Fine facial features are perfectly emphasised. Thin hair in particular looks fuller with this cut.

Garçon Cut

The Garçon Cut is especially suitable for people with fine hair and is, as the name suggests, a rather masculine short haircut. The fringe is oval and the hair at the nape is short. This is because the short hair in the Garçon Cut emphasises the shape of the head as well as the neck.

Asymmetric short hairstyle

Asymmetrical short hairstyles are worn with a side parting and are cut longer on one side. The length can vary greatly. An asymmetrical short hairstyle adds verve to straight hair and looks bold and trendy.

Pixie

The Pixie Cut is a haircut that combines different lengths of hair. While the hair on the sides and back of the head can be only a few millimetres long, the hair on the top of the head remains up to 10 cm long. Pixie is English and means elf, because the short haircut really has something elfish about it.

Fohawk

The Fohawk is a fake mohawk. Why false? The side hair sections are not completely shaved off in this short hairstyle, but are long. Nevertheless, the top hair is styled nicely upwards. The fohawk is not actually a haircut in its own right, but can be styled from a pixie hairstyle, for example.

The short hairstyle formula

With this formula you should be able to determine whether short hair suits you or not. Hold a pencil horizontally under your chin and measure the distance between the pencil and your earlobe. If this distance is less than 5.7 cm, your face is suitable for a short hairstyle. If the distance is greater than 5.7 cm, long hair should look better on you.

In general, however, the following applies: If you feel good, you radiate beauty. So if you feel comfortable with short hair, it is the best proof that short hair suits you, no matter how big the distance between the pencil and your ear is.

With this formula you should be able to determine whether short hair suits you or not.

Hair styling products for short hairstyles

Trendy short hairstyles need styling products to bring the right swing into the hair. With the right styling tools, your hair will have more volume and a good hold. Even with short hair you can have a different look every day. Here we show you the most important styling products for short hairstyles.

Hair gel

Hair gel can be used to fix your short hairstyle, giving the hair hold and shape. The special thing about hair gel is its versatility. Whether you want a sleek look or a structured finish, hair gel can help you style your short hair perfectly.

Hair wax

To give your short hairstyle more structure and prevent your hair from flying wildly, you should use a hair wax. With hair wax you achieve a flexible hold and tame unruly strands.

Paste and pomade

If you opt for paste or pomade, you can take advantage of hair wax and hair gel. These products are a mixture of fats and an alcohol base. As a result, the hair remains flexible and can be modelled. In addition, they do not dry out the hair.

Hairspray

To fix the hair or to give it extra shine, you can use a hairspray at the end of the hairstyle. A hairspray also protects the short hairstyle from external influences.

Mousse

Short hair often lacks volume. However, mousse can quickly remedy this and create a beautiful volume in your short hairstyle. The mousse also cares for your short hair and can serve as a heat protector when blow-drying. Mousse should no longer be visible in dry hair.

Hair powder

Another hair product that adds volume to your short hairstyle is hair powder. The great thing about it is that hair powder not only gives your short hairstyle more volume, but also makes the hair more manageable. So you can fix the hairstyle without any problems.

Hair care for short hairstyles

Extensive hair care is rather unnecessary for short hairstyles. By cutting your hair regularly, you are less prone to split ends. So you don't have to be afraid of broken hair. It's much more important to use a good volume shampoo. We have put together our favourite volumising shampoos for you here.
