ghd Novelty in Test: Chronos Styler

Among styling enthusiasts, and I would say beyond, the ghd brand is almost cult. For over 20 years now, ghd, short for Good Hair Day, has been bringing innovative styling tools onto the market. The latest: the Chronos Styler.

Want to know more about the technology behind the tool? Find out more here:

But in this blog post, we'll leave the technology behind and concentrate on what the Chronos Styler can really do in practice and whether it delivers what it promises, namely quick styling, defined results and shine. We grabbed the styler, converted a meeting room into a salon and off we went.

Preparation

Your hair should be completely dry before you use the straightener. And I can't say it often enough: heat protection!

Thanks to the new Bodyguard heat protection sprays, you can even adapt this preparation to your hair type. Because the protection is now available for all hair types, for coloured hair and also for fine, thin hair..

Styling: Straighten hair

As you can see in the photo, I already have very straight hair by nature. But here I had already tied it up in a plait all day and only lightly blow-dried it at the lecture and then let it air-dry. I think many people are familiar with hair moments like this, when you just have to be quick in everyday life. But as a result, the hair quickly looks creased and lacklustre. My aim with the Chronos Styler is to give my hair a quick and uncomplicated shine and smooth out any unevenness.

As soon as I switched on the ghd styler, I was surprised at how quickly it heated up. Just a few seconds after switching it on, the tool announced that it was ready with a futuristic, slightly magical sound. So long waits are a thing of the past.

The two heating plates glide over each strand of hair without resistance when straightening. However, the plates can easily be moved against each other. Although this allows for precision if you are practised, it can easily lead to kinks in the hair if you are not careful. But lo and behold, a few minutes later, and I do have a lot of hair, my hair was silky and straight. In my opinion, the ghd Chronos styler passed this test.

Styling: Curling hair

If there's one thing my hair doesn't want, it's to be curled. That's why I didn't necessarily want to use my hair as a reference here. I did try a few curls with the styler in my hair, but I couldn't get more than soft waves out of it - anything else would have really surprised me. That's why two dear work colleagues were allowed to try their luck here. And lo and behold, the styler conjured up defined, beautiful curls for both of them. The only disadvantage: as the plates are rather small, you have to work with very small strands if you have long hair, otherwise they will quickly slip out from between the heating plates.

Conclusion

Basically, the tool delivers what it promises. It enables very quick styling, defined results and lots of shine. However, I could still imagine that the styling tool doesn't have enough power for very curly or frizzy hair. But for anyone who wants to refresh straight hair, give unruly hair a sleek and shiny style or create defined curls and waves on short to medium-length hair in a matter of minutes, the ghd Chronos Styler will definitely be an asset to your haircare routine.
