The difference between Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette

Often you can find different variations of perfumes. Here then remains the agony of choice between the Eau de Parfum and the Eau de Toilette. Today we explain the differences between the two perfume variants.

The main difference of the various terms for a perfume, is not only the price, but also the fragrance concentration. In addition to the well-known Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette, there is also the Extrait Parfum and the Eau de Cologne.

Extrait Parfum

Extrait perfume is the most intense form of perfume. As a rule, it has between 15 and 30 percent fragrance oil content. As "Intense" it can even have up to 40 percent. This type of perfume should always be used sparingly, as it is very intense and long-lasting.

Eau de Parfum (EDP)

Here, too, the proportion of fragrance concentrate is very high, around 10 to 14 percent. In the case of Eau de Parfum, there is also the Intense variation, here there is up to 20 percent fragrance concentrate content. A real Eau de Parfum can still be smelled even after days. Since the concentration is also very high here, you should only use a little because the scent does not disappear quickly.

Eau de Toilette (EDT)

The eau de toilette is the rather lighter form of the perfumes, with 6 to 9 percent it has a rather lower fragrance concentrate content. The scent is much more volatile and not intrusive. Perfect for summer days when you just want something light.

Eau de Cologne (EDC)

This is the lightest form of perfume, eau de cologne was originally created as a refreshing water. With the fragrance content of 3 to 5 percent, this variant is extremely light and volatile.

Additional tips

How to make any kind of perfume last longer?

It is best to apply perfume to the places where the blood circulates the most, so the fragrance molecules unfold best. If a little Vaseline or odorless body lotion is applied to these areas beforehand, the perfume will last even longer. On warm skin, i.e. after showering, the fragrance also unfolds very nicely.

How often should the perfume be sprayed on during the day?

There is no exact rule here, but it is clear that an Eau de Parfum or an Extrait Parfum must be applied only once, while the two lighter variants can be sprayed on more often throughout the day.
