The Keratin Treatment is a chemical hair straightening treatment that originated in Brazil. The New York Times soon reported on the Keratin Treatment and it became a worldwide success.
The term keratin treatment refers to the chemical process of sealing the straightness in each individual hair so that the hair remains straight even after several washes. A keratin treatment lasts up to five months. Another name for keratin treatments is Keratin Brazilian Blowout.
I have been thinking about having a keratin treatment in the salon for a long time. The keratin treatment is supposed to penetrate the outer cuticle layer and fill it with keratin. As a result, the providers promise a permanently smooth hair structure, repaired hair and a beautiful shine. Above all, however, I hope that the treatment will reduce styling time in the morning.
The only thing that had always prevented me from having a keratin treatment was the fear of not being able to curl my hair. In hindsight, this turned out to be a mistake. But more on that later. I also wasn't sure whether my hair could be damaged by the treatment.
Facts about keratin treatment
- The hair is permanently smoothed by the keratin treatment. The hair is built up with keratin and appears shiny and strengthened after the treatment.
- The time required varies depending on hair length and density. If you would like to know in advance how much the treatment will cost and how long it will take, it is best to pop into the salon to make an appointment.
- The hair must not be washed or tied up for 48 hours after the treatment.
- After the treatment, the hair will smell of the product after a few washes - a good hair perfume is therefore recommended.
Now the time had finally come. I had my appointment at the PerfectHair.ch salon on Mühlegasse in Zurich.
1 Firstly, the hair is washed and cleaned to remove any residue from other hair products. This is already done with the special keratin shampoo and is therefore the ideal preparation.
2. in the second step, the keratin is massaged in and left in the hair for 20 minutes. It is then rinsed out.
3. the third and final step takes the longest. The hair is first blow-dried. The keratin is then worked in with the straightening iron. The hair is carefully and patiently smoothed strand by strand a total of 15 times.
The treatment is finished after exactly three hours. I don't think my hair has ever been so smooth, soft and shiny. I would love to touch it all the time, but I shouldn't, as it is supposed to stay unwashed for 48 hours.

Conclusion on keratin treatment
I would do the keratin treatment again in a heartbeat. I have much more time in the morning and my hair still looks great. It's shiny and soft. If you also want smooth, shiny and healthy hair every day, I can highly recommend the keratin treatment!
